These are a few of my Favorite things - Irish Bands

Ireland is well known for our culture of great music and has produced some of the world's finest musicians. Everyone and their mothers know of big name bands like U2 and The Script, but what about some of the more hidden Irish talent? Here's some of my favorite Irish bands to check out!

O Emperor
if you follow me on Tumblr, you may have heard me raving about these guys before. These lads hail from my part of Ireland (if I'm not mistaken, just up the road!) and have such a fab, unique sound!  They have toured with bands such as Mumford & Sons and have played festivals as far afield as SXSW in Austen, Texas. I've seen them live and they are incredible! I adore their song Sediala which you can hear bellow. Their debut album Hither Thither is available on iTunes and they're currently working on the follow up

Scuba Dice
A lot more pop-punk then O Emperor, Scuba Dice are another band I have had the pleasure of seeing live when the supported Paramore at the O2. Having first came to the public attention on You're a Star (a now defunked Irish talent show - ala Pop Idol)  They have supported a whole host of big name bands including My PassionCanterburyOne Night Only and FrancesqaThey are fun, fresh and great to have a little dance to. Everyone needs a little pop-punk in their lives! There hasn't been any new tracks from these guys in forever but you can find their old stuff on youtube and their ep The Lost Art Of Romance on iTunes

General Fiasco
Think The Vaccines meet Vampire Weekend, have a hypothetical child and then move to Northern Ireland. These guys are catchy, infectious and overall an amazing band! I am absolutly in love with their album Buildings and constantly play it on repeat. These guys are up their with the likes of Vampire Weekend, they just need the recognition! Plus, the lead singer Owen Strathern sings with the most adorable Northern Irish accent. These guys have won the NIMA for best song (The Age That You Start Losing Friends) and have also been nominated for Kerrang's best newcomer. A must listen for any fans of The Vaccines, The Kooks, Vampire Weekend and similar artists.

Keywest
I saw this guys just last night and my oh my can I say their lead singer has a set of lungs on him! They alure stage presence and really know how to do a good set! I had previously not been a big fan - having heard them busk one day in town and thought to bye my friend and I tickets but I think I'll keep an eye out for them in the future! These two Londoners and two Dubs started out busking until they were approached by Mark Needham, a world renowned and Grammy nominated engineer whose credits include The KillersKaty Perry and Fleetwood Mac.(according to Wikipedia) For a little Irish band htis was quite a feat and shows how liked their sound is! You can catch them on their Irish tour at the moment and their album The Message is out now!
If you're Irish - request their new single Straight Through My Heart from your local radio station! These boys are going to make something of themselves one day!

The Coronas
These guys have a huge following in Ireland (and abroad) and it's clear why. With their simple indie rock sounds, these boys are capturing hearts nationwide. I sadly missed them the last time they played near me which broke my heart but, next time! They also sometimes sing as gaeilge which I adore! We need to see more young Irish bands making music as gaeilge! Fun Fact? Lead singer Danny's mother is none other then Mary Black  - the Irish folk/traditional singer! It's no wonder he has a set of pipes on him!

Some others?
  • The Blizzards (Since de-banded but Bressie has gone solo!)
  • Delorentos
  • Duke Special
  • Royseven
  • The September Girls
What's your favorite home-grown act that need more recognition ?
